If you’ve been looking at Kimberley cruises for a while now, you’ve probably realised it’s never too early to book if you want to guarantee your preferred ship and departure date. Often times, that means booking at least 12 months, and sometimes up to two years in advance.
And now, the first of the 2020 cruise dates are coming through, with Odyssey Expeditions just announcing their schedule and, as is always the case, we can expect the best of the dates to start selling almost immediately. Once again, Odyssey will be offering six 14-day Broome to Wyndham (and vice versa) expeditions immediately after the Kimberley’s wet season, allowing travellers to see the best of the big waterfalls including King George and Mitchell Falls. Departing between March and May, these trips are in high demand and always sell quickly.
Later in the season, from early June through to late September, Odyssey will operate a series of their ever-popular 9-day ‘Fly/Cruise’ itineraries from Broome back to Broome. Focusing on the southern section of the coast between Broome and Mitchell Plateau, these cruises include highlights such as Montgomery Reef, Horizontal Falls, King Cascades, Aboriginal Art and of course the chance to throw in a line in search of a ‘barra’ or two.
A full list of departure dates and prices is detailed below. Odyssey offers a great value Kimberley cruising experience, particularly as she is a smaller catamaran with just ten cabins. There’s a choice of two cabin types, the spacious Deluxe cabins and the more compact Classic cabins. If your budget allows, we recommend booking early to secure one of the Deluxe Cabins, which offer double beds, picture windows and around 50% more space than the smaller Classic cabins. One thing to note about the Odyssey is that none of her cabins offer private en suites. Rather, there’s four communal toilet and shower blocks located close to cabins. These facilities never seem overly busy, and once you get in to the swing of things you won’t even miss not having your own bathroom. And ladies, you might be pleased to know that one of the four shared bathrooms is designated exclusively for female use (you can of course still use the other three units if you wish).
Although she is just 24 metres in length, the Odyssey offers plenty of space to move about and she never feels crowded. Inside, the dining room seats all travellers comfortably for meals or presentations. You might prefer to take your meals outside on the back deck, a great space for socialising and sitting back to take in the views as you cruise the Kimberley coast.
When you take an adventure cruise aboard Odyssey you will have use of three excursion tenders. Used for many of the longer excursions, the 12m expedition vessel ‘Homer’ offers great comfort and is able to travel up the smaller creeks and tributaries as she carries all 20 guests in comfort and safety, whilst two quiet motors will ensure you don’t miss a word of the naturalist’s commentary. Homer has comfortable seating and lots of shade cover, ideal for the hot Kimberley sun and also boasts an easy access ramp and stairs for landings and on-board toilet and water facilities. For smaller group activities and fishing, guests can also zip around aboard two heavy duty aluminium tenders. Odyssey's 2019 Kimberley Cruises Schedule
