Exciting times are ahead for fans of Kimberley cruising, with Australia’s pioneering Kimberley cruise line Coral Expeditions today announcing plans for a brand-new cruise ship to join Coral Discoverer and Coral Expeditions I in their Kimberley fleet from mid 2019.
Whilst the 'next generation' expedition ship is still yet to be named, construction will commence shortly in the yard of renowned Norwegian shipbuilder Vard in Vietnam. The 93.50 metre specialist expedition ship will accommodate up to 120 guests and will be built to incorporate many of the features that fans of Coral Expeditions have come to know and love when joining their Kimberley cruises.
Flexibility in delivering shore excursions has always been key to the Coral Expeditions philosophy in the Kimberley, and the new ship will be fitted with a fleet of zodiacs, along with two ‘Xplorer’ tenders, each accommodating over 60 expeditioners. These tenders are carried on twin hydraulic platforms at the stern of the ship, allowing easy boarding without having to get your feet wet.
It’s these high speed Xplorers that make it possible for Coral Expeditions guests to experience Kimberley icons such as the King Cascades on the Prince Regent River, impossible to reach for similar-sized ships employing inflatable zodiacs only.
Back on board, travellers can expect some outstanding new features when cruising the Kimberley coast. Over half of the sixty staterooms will feature a private balcony and outside-facing bathrooms, with staterooms starting at 17 square metres (183 sq ft), with top of the range suites topping out at a generous 43 square metres (463 sq ft).
There’s also a spacious dining room to accommodate all travellers in one sitting, multiple indoor and outdoor bars and a light-filled lecture lounge for daily presentations by Coral Expeditions’ interpretive team. There’s even plans in place to host scientific research missions on select voyages.
The new Kimberley cruise ship will join sister ships Coral Discoverer and Coral Expeditions I on adventure cruises along the Kimberley coast from mid 2019. Whilst the itinerary for the new vessel has not yet been announced, we can expect that it will be a ten night voyage between Darwin and Broome and vice versa.
Pricing and 2019 schedules for all three of Coral Expeditions’ Kimberley cruise ships will be announced in October 2017 – just one month away.
