Coral Geographer Kimberley Cruise F.A.Q.

Looking for answers about your Coral Geographer Kimberley cruise? Here’s the answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive.

While you don’t need to be super fit, you will gain the most enjoyment from the expedition if you can walk a few hundred metres without difficulty and unassisted. Most hikes ashore are leisurely strolls along beaches, however, there are some more strenuous walks on offer, where there may be uneven terrain and loose stones. An alternative excursion will always be offered in place of higher impact walks. During the cruise, there may be a couple of swimming opportunities in freshwater pools.

No, not at all! In fact, with Coral Expeditions’ unique range of excursion tenders, travellers are able to access locations along the Kimberley coast normally only accessible to those travelling on the smallest ships.

Coral Geographer is equipped with a flexible range of excursion tenders, allowing access to the most hard-to-reach corners of the Kimberley coast. Two Xplorer excursion tenders are used for longer explorations along the tidal rivers, and these feature individual seating for up to 70 travellers, a roof for protection from the sun and an onboard toilet. For shorter, more adventurous excursions, such as Horizontal Falls, a fleet of inflatable Zodiacs are on hand. Boarding of excursion tenders is made easy from Coral Geographer’s hydraulic platform.

The Kimberley has a warm climate, meaning guests should pack light-weight clothing that can be layered. Throughout your expedition, wet landings (where you may need to step from a tender into ankle deep water) are common and pants which can be rolled up, shorts or a cotton skirt/dress are ideal. Lightweight long-sleeved shirt will offer good protection from the sun. Comfortable walking shoes and wet landing shoes such as reef walkers, Tevas or old sneakers are recommended. A wrap or cardigan is ideal for cooler evenings on deck.

Limited Laundry services are available aboard Coral Geographer. Laundry bags may be found in your wardrobe. Charges incurred for laundry will be added to your onboard account.

Aboard Coral Geographer you will begin each day with a choice of a lighter, fresh continental breakfast or an a la carte hot breakfast. Lunches showcase a selection of hot and cold dishes, from salads and cold cuts to soups, fresh local seafood and seasonal tropical fruits both individual platted and small sharing plates. Evenings are a convivial time to dine with new friends and reflect on an exciting day of discovery over dinner. Evening meals feature a three-course table d’Hote dinner menu with table service.

For most of your Kimberley cruise you will be out of mobile phone range, meaning you cannot connect to your telecommunications provider’s signal. Luckily, Coral Geographer does have guest WiFi access, meaning services such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are viable services to remain in contact with friends and family at home.

Coral Geographer has recently received upgraded Starlink internet capability, allowing guests to access quality WiFi during their Kimberley cruise. Guests are provided with complimentary access to standard speed service, which is ideal for email, social image sharing, web browsing and messaging. Guests also have the opportunity to upgrade to a high-speed service, at additional cost onboard.

Fishing is not a focus on a Coral Geographer Kimberley cruise. There might be one or two opportunities to try your luck with a hand reel during the cruise, however this is subject to time and operational constraints and any fish caught must be released and cannot be taken home.

Coral Geographer has a no drone policy onboard given potential impacts to the ship’s electronic and navigation equipment, permit restrictions and remote area safety considerations.

When joining a Coral Geographer Kimberley cruise you require travel insurance that provides protection against the need to cancel (as fees of up to 100% of the fare apply) and also coverage for remote area medical evacuation. At Kimberley Cruise Specialists we are able to offer a 20% discount on nib Travel Insurance (which offers both of these requirements, and much more) for travellers who book their Coral Geographer cruise through us.
